Spirit of Comics Retailer Award

Every year at San Diego Comic Con, the Will Eisner Awards celebrates one store internationally as its Spirit of Comics Retailer Award Winner. The process can be a little daunting to store owners, so we want to assist as best we can. After all, we want to see as many stores participate and be celebrated as possible each year!

At our April 7 Membership Meeting we talked with previous winners: Candice Craig, Blackbird Comics and Coffee (2024 winner), Eitan Manhoff, Cape & Cowl Comics (2023 winner), and Katie Pryde, Books With Pictures (2022 winner). They gave us some really great tips for both your store video tour and your informational packet.

Video tips included:

  • Don’t be overwhelmed trying to make it high budget, just be authentic to yourself and your store.
  • Showcase what makes your store unique for your layout, events, and community.
  • Make sure you show off things like your cashwrap, your outdoor signage and appearance, interior layout and signage, and the vibe of your store.
  • Show, don’t tell is also key here!

Informational packet tips included:

  • Make sure that it is organized and contains lots of pictures.
  • One PDF that houses everything is a great way to store the information.
  • Don’t skip any of the sections they ask for information on.

We can’t wait to see your stores! And good luck, everyone!
